For $249, Nirva proposes to sell you a necklace that listens to your own speech all day and helps you understand yourself. It will be available in silver, brushed silver, black and gold. Apparently self-knowledge requires an accessory decision before it can begin.

TechCrunch reports that the company, which has raised $33 million, says it trains the device on the wearer’s voice, filters other people out and by default deletes audio and transcripts after processing. The necklace is not saving the conversation. It is saving you a talking-to about the conversation.

The app infers patterns in personality and communication, including emotion-related insights from tone, pitch, speed and volume. CEO Wei Lyu describes it as a tool for self-understanding and compassion, rather than chiefly productivity.

Her example was a nudge to thank her mother for something.

An entire venture-backed apparatus, listening, filtering, inferring and deleting, has reached the conclusion that you should thank your mother. The gold one will reach it in gold.
