Information You Provide
When you subscribe, we store your email address, signup time, subscription status, confirmation time when applicable, and a hash of your signup management token. The consent checkbox is required to submit the form. Reader comments use a private hashed email identifier, verified email sign-in, and a secure 30-day comment session cookie. Display names, approved comments, replies and posting dates are public. We retain comment accounts, comments, reports and moderation records until removed; request deletion through Contact Us. Verification links expire in 30 minutes. Network identifiers are hashed to limit abuse and removed after their short rate-limit windows. Commenting does not subscribe you to the newsletter. We send your address to Resend for requested verification emails, but do not store the plaintext email in the comment account. Gravatar profiles and reader media uploads are not enabled. When you use the Contact Us form, we store your name, email address, topic, message, and submission time to review and respond to your request. Contact requests are kept in the site’s database and are accessible only to the owner. They do not enroll you in the newsletter. Contact request records remain until removed; use the form to request deletion. The form also uses a short-lived hashed network identifier to limit abuse.
How We Use Subscription Information
We use subscription records to manage your signup, confirm your request when email delivery is configured, send the daily digest when enabled, and honor unsubscribe requests. If delivery is unavailable, your signup is saved without sending a digest. We do not sell the subscriber list.
Email Delivery And Service Providers
The site uses hosted database and storage services to operate the blog and subscription system. Resend is the configured email delivery integration; when delivery is enabled, recipient addresses and message content are sent to Resend. We store queued email payloads encrypted, along with delivery status, provider message identifiers, attempts, and delivery errors. Delivery and bounce events help us prevent failed or unwanted messages. We have not added email open-tracking or click-tracking pixels to our message templates.
Technical Information And Security
Hosting and authentication services may process IP addresses, browser information, request logs, and essential security cookies. The subscription endpoint uses a hashed network identifier to limit abusive signups. It groups attempts in ten-minute windows and removes limiter records older than 24 hours during subsequent signup requests. This identifier is stored on the server, not in a browser cookie. Owner editorial access is restricted through authentication.
Readership Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics to measure website traffic and readership without analytics cookies. We do not add newsletter email addresses, contact messages, or commenter names to analytics events. Sensitive account and subscription-management pages are excluded from measurement.
Analytics And Your Choices
You can manage cookies in your browser settings and use browser privacy tools to restrict analytics requests. Our Cookie Policy describes the current setup.
Fonts And External Websites
The site serves its fonts directly from Democrawonk. Source and social links lead to external websites with their own privacy practices. We currently display no advertising or affiliate banners and do not load their tracking images or links. Analytics helps us measure readership; it does not turn our editorial desk into a campaign targeting operation.
Retention And Unsubscribing
Subscription and operational records are kept to run the list and manage delivery. Unsubscribing stops future digest delivery and cancels queued messages where applicable; it does not automatically erase every database record. We may retain an email suppression record to prevent further unwanted mail. Use your signup management link or the unsubscribe link in an email, or contact us for access, correction, or deletion requests. We may need to verify a request before acting.
