Donald Trump’s campaign has reached the ribbon-cutting stage. Several of the companies involved are still working out what the ribbon will go around.

A Reuters review found that projects Trump is promoting before the midterms remain uncertain or years away. Take the $15 billion Iowa steel complex: Mesabi Metallics says the site is still under review, full funding is still being secured, and the state deal isn’t final. Other than where, how and with what money, things are coming along beautifully.

Production is expected in 2030. Terrific news for anyone whose rent also accepts a four-year development timeline.

In North Carolina, Trump and Howard Lutnick announced a quartz investment worth hundreds of millions. The company put the federal investment at $56 million, still subject to negotiations and approvals. Apparently the easiest part of building American industry is adding zeros while the microphone is on.

Then there’s the promised $100 million for a Kentucky pharmaceutical plant. Governor Andy Beshear’s office told Reuters it knew nothing about the project. That’s an ambitious interpretation of bringing everyone together.

The White House points to Trump’s record of securing investment. These projects may eventually happen.

If only voters could submit a letter of intent on Tuesday and deliver the actual ballot in 2030.
