Tom Tiffany is running the classic battleground-state promotion: Trump handling included, Trump policy package sold separately.
The Republican nominee for Wisconsin governor has been a close Trump ally, but AP reports he has distanced himself from the president on unpopular positions including the Iran war and large AI data centers. This is not a breakup. It is the campaign equivalent of removing the bumper sticker before visiting a moderate suburb.
Tiffany has reasons to check the mileage. A Marquette Law School poll conducted September 16–23 put Democrat David Crowley at 49% and Tiffany at 46% among likely voters, within the survey’s margin of error. AP also reports Republican-aligned spending has helped Tiffany maintain a financial advantage in a state where statewide races are routinely decided with the emotional stability of a coin landing on its edge.
So the pitch is simple: vote for the alliance, ignore selected alliance features, and please do not ask whether a governor can unsubscribe from presidential decisions after checkout.
Wisconsin voters are being offered Trump-compatible politics with locally adjustable settings. The remote control remains in Washington.
