The Justice Department has found a useful source for information about the Trump administration: Donald Trump. It took a court case.

Government lawyers had told a judge there was no plan to close East Potomac Golf Links. Trump had been publicly announcing one. Now DOJ says Interior is developing a plan to carry out his direction. The president’s social media account has been upgraded from unreliable witness to project management software.

On Thursday, the National Links Trust confirmed its role at the public course will end on or before November 15, The Hill reports. Its new 50-year lease covers two other Washington courses. An unusually substantial piece of paperwork for a project that recently occupied the same legal category as a daydream.

Trump wants a championship course. The existing one is known for affordable public golf. Apparently the problem with a place where ordinary people can play golf is that ordinary people can play golf.

CBS reports that the judge’s order protects the remaining trees while litigation continues; DOJ has appealed. That is not a ruling banning the course from closing.

Trump predicts a roughly 15-month renovation. Perhaps the government’s lawyers could get on his mailing list.
