Spotify’s co-CEO has an unusually specific vision of artistic appreciation: your favorite track, rearranged until it agrees with your knees.
As TechCrunch reports, Gustav Söderström says Spotify can use listening history back to 2008, find your real favorites, change their tempo and mix them into a running playlist at your exact cadence. He is explaining why AI assistants should pick Spotify as their music service.
There is something moving about a company retaining eighteen years of your taste so it can establish how quickly the chorus should jog.
Söderström says Spotify does not send that listening history to its AI partners; it answers their requests through its own systems. The memory stays in-house. The songs are the ones doing interval training.
His broader argument is that nobody wants AI to summarize a song. Fair enough. We want the whole thing, just with the artist keeping up.
Make powerful people uncomfortable.
